Tsuba, it is similar feature of cup and basket of hilt of Samurai Sword.
In the western battle using swords, warriors were using shields with swords. But in Japan, most of Samurai didn’t use shield. Excluding armars, samurai could guard their body using sword and tsuba.
It is sure sword can hurt the body of enemy, but tsuba cannot. Then, tsuba is the symbol of the peace.
After the samurai era, we Japanese also cannot look samurai swords frequently. However among the correctors and Iai-do players, tsuba is the very popular crafts.
As like this popular item Tsuba also meeting with the lack of successors.
