Do you know 掛軸 “Kakejiku”? Above picture is the typical Kakejiku. In Japan, favourite Japanese calligraphy, picture paste on the Kakejiku.
It is very convenient to storage the other Kakejiku, because when you want to show other Kakejiku in your room, you can roll this. It is very nice idea for Japanese small house :).
However it is not easy to paste the calligraphy and picture on Kakejiku. As Japanese culture, calligraphy and picture is written and drawn on the paper. It is natural, paper can be folded and be bent, become creased.
Hyougu-shi is the professional craftsman for pasting paper on the Kakejiku, Picture frame, Cutout board. The craftsman wrinkled the paper using water spray, blash, grue.
It is sure, these works are making damage for the calligraphy and picture, but craftsman is working these as can while minimizing damage.
Hyougu techniques are used for Kakejiku, Panel, 額装 Framed, 屏風 Byoubu (folding screens)
However, only Hyougu craftsman cannot complete their works. They need Pictures and Calligraphy. For the craftsman, such a good pictures and calligraphies are the Main character of their work.

Traditional Kakejiku
For 茶道 （Japanese tea ceremony), this kind of Kakejiku and a flower are the only interior. “Wabi-Sabi” is very important for 茶道.
But lately, most of persons are not consider about 茶道, it is important to fit your room.
Creative Kakejiku
For the interior Kakejiku is Creative Kakejiku. These kinds of Kakejiku are not consider the rules of 茶道 – Traditional Kakejiku rules.
