Chouchin is traditional handy light with candle.
It is sure, we Japanese also use handy light with batelly and LED as usual.
However, we are using Chouchin in the festival and traditional events. Also, as the billboard, lucky charm, interior, and so on.
As same as other traditonal crafts, Chouchin also facing lacking of successor.
Old style chouchin was made from paper and bamboo.
Paper is used for ther cover and windshield, also the face with the letters and color and family crest and so on.
Bamboo is used for framework.
Now, Bamboo is changed to steel wire, but the basic technique has been inherited some hundreds years.
