Maybe,you have wondering our theme. When you come to Japan, you can buy a lot of Japanese traditional crafts.
As like, Samurai Sword, Japan ware, Kimono and so on.
However, these items are created by machine and/or made in other countries. These are not "Japanese Traditional Items".
In other word, year by year, day by day, Japanese craft men who has the traditional techniques are decreasing.
Once the technique is missed, the "true Japanese crafts" also missed. It is very difficult to be revived.
On the business trip
Now our company is in Tokyo and searching "true" Japanese crafts around Tokyo.
And last Autumn, we went to Yamagata Perf for searching local craft items.
Before this trip, we ask to introduce the craft men to the regional government of the pref.
It was sure, there are so many traditional items and craft men. It was enough to fill our shop.
However, it was mistake. We contacted the craft men, but most of them told that they already retired.
It also sure, major crafts as like Wajima-nuri, Kimono, there are many demands in Japan, also other countries.
But not major crafts are not so. Then there already are a shortage of successors.
On the trip, we could communicate with a craft man of Sasano Ittou-bori, only.
Charming "Made in Japan" is supported by minor techniques
If you love Samurai swords, it is not only sword, also constructed by many parts. But the parts creators also decreased 'cause of shortage of successors. Such as minor techiques and craftsmen are supporting the completion of Samurai swords and Japanese culture.
We are feeling that Japanese old culture is on the edge.
Then we need to show the Japanese traditional and handmade items to the world for creating the market and support the craftmen.
